According to the latest data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Davao City secured the fifth spot in the 2023 ranking of Highly Urbanized Cities (HUCs) by economic contribution, making it the only city outside the National Capital Region (NCR) to break into the top 10.

The PSA's “2023 Economic Performance of the Highly Urbanized Cities in the Philippines”Report revealed that Davao City accounted for 2.5% of the national GDP (approximately Php532.54 billion), solidifying its position as the fifth-largest economy among HUCs. It is also the only highly urbanized city from Mindanao to make the list.

The top four cities in the ranking are:Quezon City (6%),Makati City (5.6%),Manila City (4.7%) and Taguig City (2.7%).
